Our Story

Sankofa Montessori embarked on its educational journey as a public charter school, receiving its charter from the Georgia State Charter School Commission in 2021. We officially opened our doors in July 2023, starting our adventure with Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grades.

As we chart our course, we added a 3rd grade in our second year and plan to introduce a new grade each year until we reach 6th grade. Our mission is to empower children with the knowledge, skills, and agency needed to lead purposeful lives.

At Sankofa Montessori, we see education as an exciting journey. Our students are the passengers on a plane, navigating their path with the support of our dedicated staff, who serve as the flight crew. Our parents are the cabin crew, partnering with us to guide and support their children’s growth. As we soar through this journey, the Sankofa bird symbolizes our commitment to learning from the past and flying toward a bright future.

The meaning of Sankofa is to honor the past to make way for the future. It symbolizes our philosophy of perpetual reflection and growth at the center of our work with our students, families, and communities.
